I came across this on the net even though the full article is about councils in the UK it makes sense that people need to know that the service is there, and also its purpose of what it provides. I guess as the economy slides people want more for their money and to see that its something worth while.
“Councils must get better at communicating. They need to prove they are good value for money, and focus on providing high-quality public services to make people happy.”
These are the quotes from the full article that stood out to me.
“However, people are feeling more positive about their local areas, if not the council. Satisfaction ratings for local areas have risen from 75% to around 79%, and concern over issues surrounding anti-social behaviour have dropped.” Only 38% of the public feel they are well-informed about local services – showing councils are not getting their message across.”
